Warburton - Baking The Difference

It is no longer about white sliced bread. The tastes of the consumer are changing and Warburtons wanted to explore this in a short, punchy introduction film for a series of discussion groups.

Our brief from design agency OneVoice was to produce a piece of film that suggests what the future of baking could look like. Change happens quicker than we think. Our tastes are evolving all the time - and we may not even realise it. This was a good starting point for the Warburtons film - placing great innovators of
recent history in a timeline, posing the idea that they probably didn’t imagine how their inventions would shape the world. In a list including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Frank Whittle and Tim Berners-Lee we come to Ellen Warburton and the very first loaf baked at the shop in Bury.

We then quickly moved to look at how today’s bakery market is changing. The lasting question from this video was ‘how can we get ahead and lead not follow?’

This needed to feel cinematic. Big, bold imagery and simple impactful typography combined in concise bursts. Single lines of text were overlaid on colourful footage centre of shot or set on a single colour backdrop amongst an edit of shots.

Finding a music track that gave us some excitement to base the edit around was key too. We wanted to cut sequences to the music with a similar approach to a promo or music video.

We specifically shot a range of products in our studio and had a play with slow motion and top-down views of different types of bread. We then added in some well sourced stock footage as well as adding parallax movement to still images.

The film helped launch a discussion on where pre-packed baked products are going in the future between Warburton and many of their stockists.
